Richard has been involved in the
tourism business in Southern
Africa for over 10 years. He is
managing director of African
Horizons Ltd a budget tourism
company that last year welcomed
12,000 visitors to Zambia. The
company employs 130 people in 7
locations.
MDA
MDA is
a specialist project management
organisation with substantial expertise
in managing the conceptualisation,
viability, design and implementation of
projects.
MDA has
wide experience in managing large
projects across the fields of
commercial/industrial, mixed use retail
and residential and institutional
projects.
MDA has
been active from a base in Cape Town on
projects all over South and Central
Africa since establishment in 1979 and
has completed projects to a value in
excess of 30 billion Rands.
Current
projects include the Waterfront canal
edge apartment complex now in the second
phase which will see some 600 luxury
apartments completed in 2007. Also a
mixed use commercial and residential
development at Bloubergstrand, Cape Town
with a developed value of some 1.5
billion Rands.

The
practice was established in 1964 by
Gabriël Fagan. It has received eleven
awards from the Institute of Architects,
among which were the Worcester Open-Air
Museum, the Mossel Bay Museum complex,
the S A Breweries Visitor’s Centre
Complex at Newlands, the Klein
Constantia wine cellar, the Institute
for Molecular Medicine and Infections
Diseases for the University of Cape
Town, the restoration of Government
House and the restoration of Church
Street Tulbagh after the 1969
earthquake. Other awards received
were the Fulton award for concrete
design, the Eskom Energy Effective
Design Award and five gold medals from
various bodies like the National
Monument’s Council, the S A Institute of
Architects and the State President’s
Award for Meritorious Service.

Fagan Architects have shown in all their
work a respect and sensitivity for the
natural and built environment, and a
commitment to energy conservation. In
the many years that he served on the
Council for the Environment, Gabriël
